I have many years of volunteer board experience as a treasurer, fundraiser, and facilitator. I have been a board member of various local organizations including the Hillside Festival, the Guelph Spring Festival, and the Guelph Youth Music Centre. I was the fundraising chair for a local political party for four federal and provincial elections. At present I am a board member of FarmStart, a non-profit organization based at Ignatius College in Guelph.
My continuing professional development has focussed on alternative dispute resolution including mediation and collaborative family law. I have completed courses through the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program at the Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. These courses include Advanced Mediation and Negotiation, Advanced Family Mediation, Dispute Analysis and Process Design, and Conducting the Commercial Mediation. I have also completed collaborative family law training.
I received my law degree (LL.B.) from the University of Western Ontario in 1986. I graduated in the top 10% of my class and I was awarded the prize for the highest standing in Real Estate Law. I was called to the bar in 1987.
I enjoy living in Guelph, where I was born and where I grew up. I am an avid cyclist and a passionate traveller. I have visited every continent except Antarctica.
